NetBooks – The Laptops without the Oomph!

People have long loved the mix of powerful computers and the internet, that is till they became fed up with the heavy packages laptops came in that was not at all easy to lug around and use while on the go. Then came the net book, a stripped down laptop with just enough memory, processing power and internet connectivity options to allow you to connect to the internet, barely. They do use a stripped down processor that has ample oomph to get you browsing fast but without the hard drive and optical media, they are quite clunky when it comes to resource heavy apps. They may be suited for the internet but for all other uses, games among one of them, they are too puny to deliver so stick with your laptop for the full web and desktop experience.
Many get confused with the standards and think these small wonders of the computing world are the replacements for the ever heavy laptop. They’re not, for they cannot run Microsoft Office or play your fav orite DVD (no hard drive and optical media reader) so you end up with an ugly net book, connected to an external optical drive and hard drive just to get your normal desktop programs to run. Be sure to research the need before you go off to buy the latest models for everything is smaller; the keyboard, display, ram, and just about anything else. They can run streaming video fast (provided you internet connection is, FAST) and do most of the stuff your desktop can but that’s where the functionality ends. They are called netbooks for a reason and that means they are optimized for the net, no more no less. And that’s all tyou get to do with them, you might also want to consider the size of your fingers for they can get you aching fast, the 9″ display also takes its toll after sometime so take it all into consideration as well as your needs before you do get one.
