Every year there are new buzzwords that creep into the geek dictionary. Unknown terms and words that you use freely now include: captcha, bug, geek, phishing, blog, and spam.

Another one of those terms is called Web 2.0. These days, you will find people adding words that they can think of: Web 2.0 phenomenon, Web 2.0 compliant, and Web 2.0 media. There seems to be confusion on the true definition of the term Web 2.0. Others opinion says that there is no such a thing; others felt that the term was just a fancy name that other people are using to exclude others from a perceived elite club.

Though a single website can have several roles, one should realize that everything included in the site should focus on one crucial objective — to attract possible clients and to appeal to them by persuasion in order to make them transact with you whether via the website or not.

However, one should still keep in mind that websites can be used even before or after a transaction with a client. Websites can be utilized in requesting for products and services information, in searching for case studies and company profiles, in coordinating in requesting sales calls, in supporting services, in requesting and following-up delivery details, and in providing answers to technical issues and problems.

It’s a known fact that the WEB is already a significant source of information for the accounting profession. The major transition now underway to replace the key software applications used by accounting firms themselves with true Web-based applications is less apparent.

Question is what has been driving this change? Professionals need to have access to these critical applications from their office, from home, from a client’s office, or from a cozy hotel in another country. Internet or the WEB makes this possible and the explosion of broadband or wireless access in the last few years has made connectivity widely available, inexpensive and yet so accessible.

While there’s still a huge threat of attackers against a victim’s corporate and though organizational assets remain the same (financial, IP, identity theft, services disruption, or denial of service, for example), web applications enable a whole new class of susceptibilities and exploit techniques such as SQL injection, cross-site scripting (XSS), and cross-site request forgery to mention a few.
