Making the Web Smarter
Eric Miller, an MIT-affiliated computer scientist five years ago agreed to lead a diverse group of researchers on a project called Semantic Web. The projects seek to provide computers with the ability to mimic intelligence by helping it to understand contents on the World Wide Web. He listed down his goals and knew what had to be achieved.
The basic standards for the Semantic Web were already in place; involvement of major players was assured; purchase and merging of startups; technical publications were taking notice about the project. What needed to be done most now is to take the technology to the mainstream. The decision to move into the business world had to be done. The question though is not if but when.
